There are two types of newborn photography that are both popular and equally beautiful. However, many people are not aware of the difference between the two and it is important you know before booking a session. Some photographers specialize in both styles, but most concentrate on one. I specialize in lifestyle newborn photography. I find the images to be intimate and timeless that will serve as amazing memories for years to come.
Lifestyle
Are you looking for more of a relaxed, in-home session with your new bundle of joy? Then this style may be for you! Lifestyle captures a day in the life of you and your family with your new addition in your own home. No more worrying about having to leave the house with your newborn after you just gave birth and came home from the hospital! Lifestyle photographers will come to you and all you need to provide is a space within your home for them to capture all of those sweet moments (nursery, bedroom, living room, etc.). This type of session doesn’t need to happen within the first 14 days of birth as it is not as important for the baby to be sleeping. Lifestyle photography can still capture the little baby details even with their eyes wide open! Instead of studio props, lifestyle photography will capture your little one in his or her crib, on a bed, in your arms, etc. Lastly, lifestyle photos encapsulate intimate moments between new parents and their newest addition to their family.
Studio
Studio newborn is often referred to as “posed.” It is important to try and get the baby to sleep most, if not all of the session in order to get those sweet sleepy baby images. Normally newborns are under 2 weeks old which can help the photographers with posing and moving the baby. Studio photography will mostly use studio lighting, backdrops and props. This type of newborn photography focuses mostly on the newborn and less on the family as a whole.
